The Afghan Diaspora Jirga expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of two distinguished Afghan national figures, astronaut Abdul Ahad Momand and former Afghanistan national cricket player Shapoor Zadran. Their remarkable contributions to science, space exploration, and sports brought honor to Afghanistan and inspired generations. The Jirga extends its heartfelt sympathies to their families, the Afghan people, and the scientific and cricket communities, praying for their eternal peace and the highest place in Paradise.

Representatives of the Afghan Diaspora Jirga held an important virtual meeting with members of the U.S. Mission in Qatar to discuss key humanitarian, social, economic, and educational issues affecting Afghanistan. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation in support of sustainable peace and development.

Oxford Conference

University of Oxford Conference (2025): “The Voice of Hope” — gathering diaspora leaders and  influential figures from Afghanistan, Europe, the UK, and beyond, focusing on girls’ education, and  outcomes of the Delegation’s Afghanistan visits.

Meeting with the EU Special Envoy

The meeting began in a constructive and positive mode. After introductions, the Jirga provided an overview of their efforts so far, its mission and ongoing initiatives aimed at inclusive development. Discussions focused on the future framework of cooperation between the Jirga and the European Union, particularly regarding inclusive education.

Meeting with Mr Scott Smith Chief of the Political Affairs Service UNAMA

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Noor Alam Hakimyar shed light on the activities and recent achievements of the Afghan Diaspora Jirga, its elections, the Jirga’s upcoming third visit to Afghanistan, its ongoing meetings with Afghan communities and notable figures abroad, and other future plans. Hakimyar also highlighted existing challenges, particularly regarding girls’ education, and stressed the important role of religious scholars. He noted that in the Jirga’s upcoming visits, there will be more consultations, cooperation, and even the active participation of scholars.

Meeting with the Oxford Afghan Society

he Delegation held a highly productive and insightful meeting with the Oxford Afghan Society, which brought together a diverse group of influential community leaders, respected academics, published writers, and experienced professionals from different fields.

Delegation to Revisit Afghanistan for Talks with Taliban Officials

The delegation with an expanded mandate and enhanced support will once again visit Afghanistan to engage in discussions with Taliban officials. We will keep you updated here on any developments.

Strengthening EU-Afghanistan Collaboration

The delegation held meetings with members of the European Parliament, various officials in Brussels, and notably with the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Mr. Thomas Nicklson.

Afghan Unity

The Delegation held productive discussions with the Afghan Cultural Centre, emphasising the importance of unity among all Afghans. Together, they agreed that all efforts must be coordinated under a unified platform to promote peace and prosperity for Afghanistan.

We also had the honour of meeting the former President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, who expressed deep concern regarding the current situation in the country.

We were warmly welcomed by Mawlawi Kabir, the Political Deputy of the Prime Minister, who expressed eagerness to address these critical issues.
